Monique Kwist heeft een opleiding ruimtelijk vormen en mixed media en werkt vanaf 1990 als beeldend kunstenaar. Architectuur, lichtval, plaats en plaatsing spelen in haar oeuvre een belangrijke rol.
Ze is geïntrigeerd door de vraag hoe een -stille- aantrekkingskracht van een ruimte ontstaat en hoe dat beeldend kan worden omgezet. Over welke aantrekking gaat het, waar is dat te vinden? Dat wordt onderzocht en als uitgangspunt genomen in het maakproces. Haar werk is zichtbaar beïnvloed door reiservaringen in andere culturen waarbij ze de plaatselijke architectuur, beschermd erfgoed en landschap verkent.
Met veel gevoel voor materiaal ontwikkelt ze ontwerpprocessen die haar observaties over plaats en ruimte als het ware samenvatten. Dit alles op grenzen van herkenbaarheid en suggestie.
Monique Kwist has an education in spatial design and mixed media and has worked as a visual artist since 1990. Architecture, light, place and placement play an important role in her oeuvre.
She is intrigued by the question of how a -quiet- attraction of a space arises and how that can be transformed visually. What attraction is it about, where can it be found? That is explored and taken as a starting point in the making process. Her work is visibly influenced by travel experiences in other cultures where she explores local architecture, protected heritage and landscape.
With a great sense of material, she develops design processes that summarize, as it were, her observations on place and space. All this on boundaries of recognition and suggestion.
