’Het is niet zo, het is anders. Zie ik wat ik zie? In feite kan ik niet stoppen met kijken en me dat afvragen. Daarna begint het verwonderen, onderzoeken, denken en doen. Lies maakt tekeningen, schilderijen en collages. Hierin vertelt ze het verhaal van de stedelijke landschappen die ze op reis waarneemt. Haar werk refereert aan architectuur, ruimtelijkheid en dikwijls ook aan sociale kwesties. Ze onderzoekt wat haar heeft geraakt en engageert zich op eigenzinnige wijze met de stedelijke wereld waarin we leven.
‘It’s not like this, it’s different. Do I see what I see? I actually can not stop wondering this while watching. Everything starts with observing, and as some sort of cycle, the wonder, the research, thinking and doing follows. While painting I prolong the act of observing, so to speak. Lies makes drawings, paintings and collages. In her work she tells the story of the urban landscapes which she sees while traveling. It refers to architecture, spaciousness and often social issues. She examines what affected her and engages herself to urban life in her own specific way.
